The Intersection of Technology and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: A Personal Perspective

As a senior cybersecurity student and member of the Cyber LeADERS program at Old Dominion University, I'm excited to reflect on how technology relates to my experience with Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: physiological, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Technology is crucial at every level of my needs, from meeting basic physiological needs to enabling self-actualization. I use technology to fulfill my physiological needs, such as getting food. Dr. Brian Payne's speech at the Cyber Leaders induction ceremony emphasized our responsibility to safeguard digital spaces, highlighting the significance of our roles in ensuring online and offline security. Social media helps me connect with my peers, giving me a sense of belonging. After I built an ePortfolio website from scratch, I felt a sense of self-esteem and accomplishment, and through online classes, I am actualizing my knowledge to achieve my goals.
